A New Beginning
A new beginning,
a new thought—
a chance to touch the life
we once dreamed of,
even if only in distant memory.
Back then,
we were naked strangers
to everything but hope.
Life was tender,
our dreams still untested,
our memories soft
and uncorrupted.
And sometimes,
I wonder what it would mean
to start from that quiet place again—
not rewriting the past,
but meeting it with the person
I’ve grown into.
To walk a quieter path,
mindful of the missteps
that once broke us open.
To release the sharpness,
the anger,
the tangled things
we carried without knowing,
fighting our own ideas
of right and wrong.
But I’m older now,
and gentler with myself.
I know any new road
has its shadows,
its turns I can’t predict,
its storms that could return me
to the same crossroads
years from today.
It was never the path,
was it?
It was who we were
walking it with…
And now—
I’m ready for a love
that walks beside me
without fear.
Someone who holds my hand
when the world feels heavy,
and lets me lean
when I can’t stand steady.
Someone I can cry with
and still feel whole.
Someone…
Maybe that’s you.
Maybe it isn’t.
But the beginning I seek
lives in me now—
quiet, warm,
open to what may come.
A new beginning
starts today.
And I walk toward it,
hugging the shadow
standing beside me…
