Maya
Our place on Earth, in this vast universe, is both magnificent and humbling. It is beautiful, mysterious, and the only home we truly know.
Yet the universe itself is difficult to grasp. Its scale is so enormous that our minds struggle to comprehend it. Distances are measured in light-years and astronomical units—labels we use because the real numbers are simply too large to imagine. Even light, the fastest thing we know, takes years to reach nearby stars.
The extremes exist in the other direction too. Atoms, electrons, and protons are unimaginably small. Invisible to us, yet they form everything we see, touch, and feel. Strangely, atoms themselves are mostly empty space—almost nothing—yet from this near emptiness comes the solid world around us.
Somewhere between the vastness of galaxies and the emptiness within atoms, we live our everyday lives—filled with thoughts, emotions, worries, and dreams.
Perhaps this is what the ancient idea of Maya suggests: that much of what we experience may simply be an illusion shaped by perception.
Or perhaps it only reminds us how little we truly understand.
Is life exactly what we think it is?
Or are we all, in our own small way, moving through a beautiful illusion?
It's all Maya
Our life
an illusion
Seeing light in the visible spectrum
Hearing only within the limited audible spectrum
Staying inside a captive bubble
Our life
an illusion
Time that ticks is relative
You and me perceive at miniscule variance
Many millionth of a fraction of a second different
The light from the sun minutes old
Stars, many years behold
Our life
an illusion
You look solid
Muscles and tissues
Look within, you are an atom
Made of 99% empty space
Yet visible, whole and not hollow
Our life
an illusion
Our emotions are not real
Built only in our heart
A rain can make me dance
While you may cry wrapped in sadness advance
Our life
an illusion
Memories carry stories from past
Stories made up from spiced facts
Making us always a hero or a victim
Never the culprit
Our life
an illusion
Good, bad, right and wrong
Another illusion
Depends where we stand on the prong
Left is right if you see from the opposite side
Our life
an illusion
The only verity
Life begins, someday ends in death
Everything in between
A dance of illusion and wreath
Our life
an illusion
